What can I take away from my routine that might actually help me feel more relaxed?
For me, it was folding laundry. I just didn’t do it.
It was late, I was tired, and I had just finished cleaning up from dinner.
Normally, I would’ve pushed through and folded the clothes so I could feel “caught up.” But that night, I just didn’t.
And you know what? The world kept going...
Sometimes, in our minds we place these unrealistic expectations on ourselves, ignoring how we actually feel.
Acting as if we don't get " this" done now, there will be some HUGE problem. But the truth is... we have to think about the timelines we put on ourselves. The pressure we put on ourselves. To hurry up and get it done.
But, in this new journey towards slowing down a bit... learning to extend the timeline based on the season of life I'm in is so necessary.
Do you need to reconsider your own timeline on something in your life?
Do you need to just leave the basket full right now?
I left the basket full. I went straight to the bathroom, turned on the hot shower, and used my lavender soap. I didn’t rush.
I didn’t think about a to-do list.
I just gave myself the night off from doing “one more thing" and extended my timeline.
I felt calmer. I slept great. I didn’t wake up feeling behind—I actually felt more at ease.
Taking one thing off your list gives you space to reset. I’ve started doing it more often—just choosing one thing I don’t have to do right now.
Start small. For you, maybe it's laundry. Maybe it's not. Whatever that is, skip it today. And really take the time this evening to enjoy a hot, calming shower.
