Smom's Lifestyle- The Calming Shower Soap Shop: Overstimulation Is Actually A Thing.

 




Overstimulation is actually a thing.

The phone buzzing.
Kids talking over each other.
Your email “ding” you feel like you’ve heard at least 100 times today.

And by 3pm, it’s not just that everything feels loud — it’s that your brain is tired but the demands keep coming.

Your shoulders ache from being tense all day.

Your eyes are dry from staring at screens.

You’ve been in back-to-back conversations, answering questions, solving problems — and you’re still thinking about the three things you haven’t had time to finish.

You’re on your second or third cup of coffee, but it’s not giving you energy anymore — it’s just keeping you upright.

That’s overstimulation.

You’ve probably gotten so used to it that it feels normal to you.

The problem with that? Think of it like this — even if you don’t notice it, your body gets caught in a kind of sensory traffic jam, where everything piles up and there’s no clear signal to your body or brain to slow down or take a break.

Over time, your nervous system stays stuck in high-alert mode, so even after the workday ends, your mind races and your body holds on to the stress and tension. You don’t feel tired, you feel exhausted.

Wired — unable to fully enjoy the moments that matter most to you- your family. So then you find more work to do at home. More things to do at home.

This tension continues seeping into your evenings, leaving you disconnected from yourself and the people you love, making it even harder to recharge and go into tomorrow with confidence and a rested body from the start of the day. This cycle continues.

So what can you do about it?

It’s more simple than you think. Start by giving yourself a clear signal that the workday is over — its like a way to transition your body and brain into a slower pace.

A warm shower or bath will help. I know, you already do this.
Here’s how it’s different. It’s with essential oils.

First, instead of just rushing through it, you actually slowed down and made it a real moment for yourself.

Second, the essential oils like lavender or eucalyptus sends a signal to your brain that it’s time to slow down and relax. When you use these oils regularly during your shower or bath, your brain starts to link their smell with that moment of calm and relaxation.

Over time, just smelling that scent—even when you’re not in the shower—can trigger your nervous system to relax automatically, almost like a shortcut to feeling calm without even thinking about it.

Smom's Lifestyle- The Calming Shower Soap Shop: Why It’s So Hard to “Turn It Off” After Work

 



Let’s get vulnerable for a minute.


You’re great at what you do.
You pour yourself into your work or your business and your family because you care, you love your family and you enjoy what you do.


And if you’re honest… you even like the pace.


But here’s the thing—when you spend all day in “go mode,” your nervous system doesn’t know how to switch gears just because you’re home or clocked out for the work day.


Your mind is still running through emails.
Your body still feels tense, even when you’ve changed into comfy clothes.

And that restless, anxious feeling?
It’s not because something is wrong with you… it’s because your mind and body have been running on high intensity mode for too long. You’re body has to be “told” to slow down and find a moment of calm.


See, what’s happened is you’ve trained yourself to be always ready. 

Always moving. 

Always solving.

Always fixing.


Now, that skill is valuable. Don’t get me wrong—but it comes with a cost if you never step out of it. So you have to teach your body and mind how to also relax again. 


You need to create small moments that make your body feel like it's okay to relax.


Here’s something you can try today:
Give your body a reminder that the workday is over.
Not just a thought, but something physical—something it can easily recognize and can be part of your natural routine.


 Like a signal to switch gears.

A perfect example of this is a shower or bath. 

You already do it every day, so it’s familiar and easy.

The warm to hot water helps your muscles loosen up.


The sound and feel of it washing over you can help your mind step away from the day’s noise- it’s like a white noise (some people, like me, even use a white noise like the sound of a fan to clear your thoughts to sleep at night).


This can also be a cue for your body that the work day is over.


I even encourage you to add a few drops of pure lavender essential oil  or use a soap that is contains lavender essential oil because that lavender scent can really help your brain disconnect from work so you can slow things down.


It sounds simple, but it works.
That warm water and lavender, tells your nervous system:
“We’re done for now. It’s time to rest.”


You can’t erase the demands of the day.
But you can create these tiny, but very powerful ways to relax after a busy day will that keep you from running on empty.


And when those moments are built into something you’re already doing—like your evening shower—it’s not “one more thing” to add to your list, it’s just you giving yourself and your body the permission it needs to calm down from the day. I’m creating something to make this  SUPER easy for you.

Smom's Lifestyle- The Calming Shower Soap Shop: Why 3pm Feels So Hard (And What to Do About It)



 That 3pm crash is real...


Ever notice how 3pm hits different when you’ve been holding it all together since you got out of bed this morning?


The fast pace rush of the morning to get the kids clothed and ready for school-after they have their little rants about not wanting to get ready for school or I'm still tired. Then, make sure everyone is actually getting ready and not off doing something else. Making sure their teeth are ACTUALLY brushed, get them feed, backpacks and lunches packed, and off into the car so no one is late.


It's a lot.

That mental fatigue... where your thoughts just feel cluttered.

That overstimulated feeling that makes you want to go hide away and be alone for a moment?


It’s a signal.

Your body is whispering: “Please, pause.”

You didn’t forget how to relax—

you just haven’t had a quiet second to do it.


You can't get rid of all the things you have to do day to day. But, you can find little ways to relax after a stressful day.

Let the shower be your soft return to peace.

Let the hot water erase the tension in your body.


Let the scent of your lavender essential oil rise from the steam when the hot water hits your soap- and let it calm you.


Let it remind you it’s okay to just be you again—not the planner, the free uber driver, the last minute run to the store or the problem-solver.


You love being there for your kids. And you are not complaining about it either- their your babies and of course you'll do anything for them. But you still need a moment just to yourself.


And you'd be amazed at what just 10 minutes, lavender essential oil, and steam from your shower can do behind a closed door- how it can reset your whole mood.


This is your permission to pause—guilt-free.

Because you’re allowed to feel good, too.

It's that time of year... back to school!


And, I want to share this word of encouragement. 

To every amazing & beautiful spirited mama out there juggling a million things: remember, your worth isn't measured by someone else's opinions. It's about being proud of who you are and loving yourself, flaws and all. In the midst of busy schedules and all the to-dos, don't ever forget to prioritize YOU too.

Taking care of yourself has to be at the top of your “to do” list… not the bottom. It’s necessary for your physical and mental well-being.

So, hold your head high, embrace what makes you unique, and let go of the judgments and haters. You're doing great and you deserve to feel proud of the incredible person you are now and who you are becoming. You've got this! ❤️ And grab yourself some lavender essential oil goodies to help you destress at the end of the day- it helps with that stressed and anxiousness feeling this time of year too.

Ever step into a hot shower and finally feel you exhaled for the first time all day?
That’s not just the hot water working—it’s your nervous system letting go.
Or is the answer no. It's just a shower.
Well, maybe. But maybe not.
That feeling. It's actually possible with a hot shower combined with aromatherapy.
Feel that peaceful exhale.
When hot water and the essential oils in aromatherapy soaps are working—it helps your nervous system let go.
That’s aromatherapy. 🌿
But wait… what is aromatherapy, really?
