How can I make my evenings feel slower and more peaceful without adding more to my to-do list?
There was a reality tv show that I used to watch a couple years back called Put a Ring On It. Essentially, it followed couples that were in very LONG relationships, but had never made the commitment to each other to get married. There was one couple that I remember- they were actually a really great match for each other (unlike many of the couples on the show).
Also, unlike many of the couples, the man in the relationship had actually asked her previously and wanted to get married. But, the woman in the relationship was a little too focused on all the unknowns of the future one including having kids or not. The woman was so afraid of the future or the unknown of the future that she was ready to just throw in the towel because she "in her mind" couldn't handle not knowing or really just not being in control.
To get to the point, the therapist said something to her that has stuck with me ever since and I try to keep this idea front and center as I navigate my life... my aspirations, my family, my business, the future, and the knowns that often bring stress and that not so fun anxious feeling. She said- Surrender control, Allow good things to happen, and Be present in this moment.
So many times we get too caught up in what's ahead, or trying to plan out everything, or get to the destination that we miss the beautiful pieces of the journey. It is in these times when showing down is even more important so that we don't miss the beauty of the things, the moments, and the people God chooses to place in our lives as we move along the journey.
The point isn't rushing to the destination- it's actually slowing down to see the journey itself.
If your evenings feel rushed—or like an extension of your to-do list—you’re not alone.
It’s easy to fall into the pattern of doing more, even when what you really need is a chance to just Be Present In The Moment.
I want so say this to you.... peace doesn’t come from adding more. It comes from choosing what matters most.
For me, it's easier to see that when there's clarity.
Clarity comes in the slow and simple moments.
Slow moments come in many ways, even with a hot shower and lavender soap.
These small slow moments feeI so good to your soul. They calm you. They clear your mind.
That simple slow, calming shower—isn’t just a way to wash off the day. It’s a way to return to yourself without pressure, without noise, without another thing on your list.
And when you focus on that one moment that truly brings value to your evening, everything else starts to feel lighter too.
Just start with one thing that brings you peace and slows you down. Let it be enough. And then in that moment, as the steam rises and the lavender scent fills the bathroom—slowly seeping under the door and into your bedroom spreading the smell of peace into your space, remind yourself:
Surrender control, allow good things to happen, and be present in this moment.
Your nerves will loosen, your breath will slow without the internal jitter, and your body will begin to exhale the day.
❤️ Until next time, color your thoughts beautiful-
